Firaxis, the developer behind Civilization 7, has released patch 1.0.1, addressing player feedback following the game's full launch. The patch, available for PC, Mac, Linux, and Steam Deck, is the first of several planned updates aimed at improving the overall experience. Initial player and press reviews were mixed, primarily citing concerns about the user interface, limited map variety, and missing features. While Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged the negative feedback, he expressed confidence in the game's long-term prospects.
This initial patch focuses on several key areas:
Gameplay Improvements:
- Fixes for shorter-than-intended Ages in Epic and Marathon speed games.
- City-States now transition to Friendly Independent Powers during Age transitions instead of vanishing. They also begin with more units in Exploration and Modern Ages.
- Numerous fixes for naval combat inconsistencies, addressing combat strength values, reciprocal damage, and unit movement after battles.
- Preventing Legacy Path completion from adding unnecessary Age Progress in the Modern Age.
- Towns will automatically revert to growing if their chosen Focus becomes ineligible.
- The "Future Civic" is now repeatable across all Ages, with increased costs for repeated selections.
- Resolved an issue where excessive growth bonuses resulted in negative food requirements.
- Improved rail network reliability, particularly for settlements connected via water using Ports.
- Adjustments to the Antiquity Age Loyalty Crisis, including the ability to purchase Villas.
AI Enhancements:
- Reduced frequency of AI offering high-value cities in peace deals.
- Decreased AI war declarations at the start of the Modern Age.
- AI now considers Ideology more heavily before declaring war or offering peace.
- Adjusted AI war and peace tendencies based on ideological alignment.
Camera Fix:
- Resolved a camera focusing issue on native resolutions when clicking the minimap.
UI/UX Refinements:
- Temporary replacement of the Simplified Chinese font with the Civilization VI font.
- Fixes for Settlement menu opening, yield icons on converted towns, cut-off text on the Global Yields Breakdown screen, and missing notifications for completed Espionage actions.
- City projects are no longer incorrectly displayed as purchasable.
- The current religion is now prioritized in the belief picker.
- Resolved issues with lingering District health bars and missing Leader portraits.
- Improved alignment of Leader names and portraits on the Age Summary and Victory Rankings screens.
- Fixed a background color issue in the Player Customize tab.
- Improved spacing on the loading screen.
Cross-Play Note: Cross-play multiplayer between PC and console players is temporarily disabled to expedite PC patch deployment. This does not affect console-to-console or PC-to-PC multiplayer. Future patches may be released at different times for PC and console platforms.
This patch represents a significant step in addressing community concerns and improving the Civilization 7 experience. Further patches are expected to follow.
