Call of Duty Studio Loses Multiplayer Development Director

After a 15-year tenure, Greg Reisdorf, Call of Duty's Multiplayer Creative Director, departs Sledgehammer Games. His contributions spanned numerous Call of Duty titles, beginning with Modern Warfare 3 (2011). Reisdorf spearheaded the multiplayer development for the 2023 Modern Warfare 3 iteration, overseeing live seasonal content and modes.

Reisdorf's journey with Sledgehammer Games, established in 2009, commenced with his involvement in the original Modern Warfare 3. His career trajectory at the studio saw him progress significantly, marked by contributions to pivotal moments in the franchise. A memorable highlight, he recounts, was a sequence in Modern Warfare 3's "Blood Brothers" mission.

His influence extended to shaping the "boots on the ground" era of Call of Duty, notably through his work on Advanced Warfare's mechanics – boost jumps, dodging, and tactical reloads – alongside unique weapon attributes and map designs. While he acknowledges some design choices, like Advanced Warfare's "Pick 13" system, were not without their challenges, his focus remained on rewarding player skill.

Reisdorf also reflected on his experiences with Call of Duty: WW2, addressing the initial controversy surrounding its weapon class restrictions, and his contributions to Call of Duty: Vanguard's multiplayer, emphasizing his preference for classic three-lane map designs over strict military realism.

His most recent role involved the creation of multiplayer maps for 2023's Modern Warfare 3, including reinterpretations of beloved Modern Warfare 2 maps. As creative director, he directly oversaw the development of live seasonal modes, such as Season 1's "Snowfight" and "Infectious Holiday." His involvement encompassed over 20 modes across Modern Warfare 3's post-launch support. Reisdorf's departure signals a new chapter in his career, hinting at continued involvement within the gaming industry.
