Elden Ring Nightreign: Raider Class Hands-On - IGN First

If you revel in the thrill of Elden Ring's diverse playstyles, particularly the sheer power of wielding colossal weapons and unleashing devastating jumping attacks and charged strikes, then the Raider class in Nightreign will captivate you. Take a moment to watch the video below to see the Raider in action.

While the Guardian, another robust class known for its hefty health reserves and preference for large weapons, focuses on defense with its shield and team-wide damage mitigation ultimate, the Raider is crafted as a relentless offensive juggernaut.

The cornerstone of the Raider's arsenal is the Retaliate ability. At first glance, it may seem modest, consisting of two stomps that inflict moderate physical and poise damage. However, the real strength lies in the Raider's passive ability, which prevents knockback during Retaliate. This feature essentially grants the Raider a damage-soaking technique that allows you to plow through enemy attacks unscathed. The second stomp transforms into a powerful punch capable of staggering even the mightiest foes, provided you absorb a significant hit.

The Raider's ultimate, Totem Stela, is a game-changer. By slamming the ground, the Raider summons a towering totem that erupts, dealing substantial damage to surrounding enemies. This ultimate, like others in Nightreign, can shift the momentum of a battle. Beyond its offensive capabilities, the totem serves as a climbable structure, providing a safe haven or strategic vantage point for you and your team. Additionally, it boosts the damage output of all nearby allies, making it an essential tool for coordinated team plays.

Equipped with the Raider's Greataxe at the start, which inflicts fire damage and is imbued with the "Endure" skill for additional attack absorption, the Raider is primed for close-quarters combat. As you progress through the game, seeking out larger strength-scaling weapons will further enhance your combat effectiveness.

Among all the classes I've explored in Nightreign, the Raider stands out as the most enjoyable for me. It's particularly suited for one-on-one encounters, aligning perfectly with the class's Remembrances, which feature gladiatorial-style boss fights. This unique twist adds a refreshing layer to the gameplay experience.

As we delve deeper into Nightreign throughout the month, stay tuned for more detailed analyses of its mechanics, developer interviews, and additional insights as part of IGN First's coverage.
