Capcom's Efforts to Optimize Monster Hunter Wilds
Capcom is diligently working to enhance the performance of Monster Hunter Wilds ahead of its much-anticipated launch. This initiative was highlighted in a recent post on the game's German Twitter (X) account on January 19, 2025, where they shared exciting updates about the game's optimization efforts.
Plans to Lower GPU Requirements for PC
In a bid to make Monster Hunter Wilds more accessible to a wider audience, Capcom is focusing on reducing the PC's GPU requirements. A video shared by Monster Hunter Germany showcased a smoother gameplay experience featuring a hunter battling Quematrice, a rooster-looking brute wyvern. This footage demonstrated the updated Prioritize Framerate mode on PS5, which boosts fps at the expense of some graphical details.
The post also mentioned that similar performance improvements are being made for the PC version, with efforts to lower the recommended GPU requirements. "Performance will be improved in a similar way and we are looking into whether we can lower the recommended GPU requirements," the post stated. Currently, the game's minimum GPU requirements are NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super and AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. If Capcom's optimization plans succeed, players with lower or mid-tier GPUs might soon enjoy the game without the need for costly upgrades.
To further assist players in optimizing their gaming experience, Capcom plans to release a free benchmarking tool. This tool will help players determine the best settings for their PCs or evaluate if their current hardware can run Monster Hunter Wilds smoothly. This move could alleviate concerns about needing to upgrade hardware, especially if Capcom manages to lower the GPU requirements effectively.

Issues in the First Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta
The first open beta test for Monster Hunter Wilds, conducted between October and November 2024, revealed significant performance issues that left many players concerned. Feedback from Steam users highlighted the presence of low-poly NPCs and monsters, drawing unfavorable comparisons to the graphics of PS1 games. Additionally, reports of fps drops and other performance hiccups were prevalent, even among those using high-end PCs. While some players managed to enhance performance, it often came at the cost of graphical fidelity, further degrading the visual experience.
Capcom acknowledged these issues on November 1, 2024, stating, "The issue of afterimage noise occurring in certain environments when Frame Generation is enabled will be fixed in the full game, which is already in a more improved state compared to the beta test." This response indicates that Capcom is actively working to resolve these problems before the game's official release.
Players will soon have another chance to experience these improvements as Capcom has scheduled a second Open Beta Test for Monster Hunter Wilds from February 7-10 and 14-17, 2025. This test will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam and will feature the Bird Wyvern Gypceros alongside an unknown monster. It remains to be seen whether the recent performance enhancements will be included in this final beta test, but the anticipation is high among the Monster Hunter community.
