Viral Stellar Blade Multiplayer Clip Sparks Misinterpretations
Recent online speculation about a hidden multiplayer function in Stellar Blade isn't entirely accurate, according to the modder responsible for the widely-shared split-screen gameplay footage circulating on social media platforms.
Despite overnight claims that developer Shift Up had implemented then abandoned a multiplayer feature, PhantomSomnus - the modder who originally discovered and shared a two-player gameplay clip in a Discord server - refutes these assumptions.
"I woke up to widespread misinterpretation of footage I specifically shared only in a private Discord," PhantomSomnus clarified on social media. "The split-screen functionality shown isn't a native Stellar Blade feature - it's standard Unreal Engine capability that I activated through modifications."
Technical Clarification on the Viral Footage
PhantomSomnus demonstrated how modifying Unreal Engine parameters allowed loading a second player character (Eve) into the game environment. "This was purely an experimental attempt using the engine's built-in local multiplayer support, not an official feature developed by Shift Up," they explained in a Reddit post, adding: "As the footage shows, this experimental approach ultimately proved non-functional."
Modder @phantomSomnus discovered multiplayer references in Stellar Blade files.

Evidence of Multiplayer Development
PhantomSomnus acknowledged discovering traces of network-based multiplayer systems in the game files. "The development team clearly experimented with an online PVP mode that was ultimately scrapped," they noted, sharing a screenshot containing residual menu elements from this abandoned feature.
However, when asked about potential future multiplayer implementations, the modder remained skeptical: "Based on my findings, any official multiplayer update appears highly improbable at this stage."
PC Version Launch Details
The Steam release of Stellar Blade arrives on June 11 with significant PC enhancements including:
- Advanced upscaling via Nvidia DLSS 4 and AMD FSR 3
