GTA Online May Continue After GTA 6 Launch
Take-Two Commits to Supporting GTA Online With Active Playerbase

As anticipation builds for GTA 6, many wonder about the fate of GTA Online. While Rockstar hasn't made an official decision, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick offered insights during a February 14, 2025 interview with IGN.
"While I can't discuss specific projects pre-announcement, our philosophy is clear," Zelnick explained. "We maintain support for existing titles as long as players remain engaged."

The executive cited NBA 2K Online's continued operation in China since 2012, even after its successor launched in 2017. "We didn't sunset the original when both versions maintained healthy player counts," Zelnick noted. "This demonstrates our commitment to legacy titles with active communities."
Given GTA Online's decade-long success and financial performance, Rockstar would likely maintain the current servers alongside GTA 6's potential online counterpart.
Rockstar Exploring User-Generated Content for GTA 6 Online

Industry reports suggest Rockstar may implement Roblox-style user-generated content (UGC) in GTA 6's online component. According to a February 17, 2025 Digiday report, the company has been consulting top creators from Roblox, Fortnite, and GTA modding communities.
"Rockstar has been exploring customized experiences within their upcoming title," the report stated, describing potential tools for environmental modification and asset creation similar to established UGC platforms.

This strategy could expand GTA 6's reach through creator content while introducing new monetization avenues like virtual item sales. Though currently unconfirmed through official channels, this approach aligns with GTA's continued popularity - the 14-year-old title remains among Twitch's most-watched games.
