Dune: Awakening Surpasses 1 Million Sales, Becomes Funcom's Top-Selling Title

Dune: Awakening has sold over 1 million copies within two weeks.

Funcom, the developer, shared the milestone today, highlighting a successful launch with a "highly positive" Steam user review rating. Over 1 million players have joined the game, marking it as Funcom's fastest-selling title to date.

"Dune: Awakening launched June 10, and 1,000,000 players have embarked on this journey!" the studio declared. "It’s now our fastest-selling game ever. For context, Conan Exiles took a full year to hit this mark. We’re deeply grateful for this incredible response. You’ve been relentless since launch, and it’s clear you’re not slowing down."

Within hours of its release, Funcom’s survival RPG recorded over 142,000 concurrent players on Steam, peaking at 189,333 players last weekend. Our review awarded Dune: Awakening an 8/10, stating: "Dune: Awakening is a stellar survival MMO that vividly brings Frank Herbert’s sci-fi universe to life, often to its benefit and sometimes to its disadvantage. The journey from a parched wanderer to a formidable warlord on Arrakis is thrilling at nearly every turn, with story and worldbuilding that delighted this sci-fi fan."

"Still, Awakening has room for improvement. Combat lacks polish, the endgame feels chaotic and unrewarding, and technical glitches persist. Yet, these flaws are minor compared to the game’s towering achievements."

Funcom is actively planning enhancements for PvP in the Deep Desert, previously criticized as "toxic" due to griefing. The studio has already disabled the ability to crush players with Ornithopters. Senior game director Viljar Sommerbakk also indicated potential tweaks to Ornithopters, such as adding rockets that "limit maneuverability and top speed."
