Destiny 2's Ikora Gets Revamped Dialogue With Original VA

By SophiaDec 20,2025

Bungie has officially announced it's working to re-record certain Destiny 2 dialogue lines to return original voice performances for characters like Vanguard Ikora Rey.

When The Edge of Fate expansion launched as the first major content drop in the Year of Prophecy cycle, sharp-eared players noticed Ikora Rey – originally voiced by Gina Torres – sounded remarkably similar to Savathun from The Witch Queen. This occurred because Debra Wilson, Savathun's voice actor, had taken over the role.

While Bungie had warned players in May about upcoming English voice cast changes affecting Orin, Chioma, and Ikora, yesterday's (July 15) confirmation revealed the original actors were initially "unavailable to record lines for The Edge of Fate." The studio is now actively re-recording dialogue for impacted characters, though no specific timeline exists beyond targeting "a future update."

Until these revisions go live, players will continue hearing temporary voice performances or encountering silent NPCs. Similar to Destiny 2: Heresy's solution, subtitles will provide story context during these instances.

Though Bungie didn't directly mention the SAG-AFTRA strike, its statement referenced resolved "conflicts" – notably coinciding with SAG-AFTRA suspending its strike over AI protections. The labor dispute began July 2024 when negotiations broke down between the union and major gaming companies – including Activision, Electronic Arts, and WB Games – regarding AI usage protections, prompting 98% of members to approve strike action.

Recent Destiny 2 announcements revealed plans for two expansions plus significant seasonal and core updates during Year of Prophecy – the first year featuring four major content releases, split between paid expansions and free updates.

Destiny isn't Bungie's sole focus. Their Marathon reboot unveiled in May 2023 encountered turbulence during alpha testing, compounded by controversy surrounding plagiarized assets and speculation about the project's impact on Bungie's future. Following player feedback, Bungie postponed Marathon's launch indefinitely last month.
