"Lies of P DLC Overture Director Promises Difficulty Adjustments"

By GraceJun 19,2025

The developers at Neowiz have officially launched the DLC Overture for Lies of P, a move that took place during this year's Summer Game Fest. This latest expansion brings a wealth of new content, including fresh locations, challenging enemies and bosses, intriguing characters, and an assortment of new weapons. However, one of the most talked-about additions has been the inclusion of two easier difficulty options—an update that sparked significant discussion among players.

Lies of P, known for its unforgiving nature as a “Soulslike,” can be particularly harsh on newcomers drawn in by the game’s atmospheric storytelling and dark aesthetic. Initially, director Jiwon Choi expressed the belief that Soulslike titles shouldn’t offer difficulty settings, and the base game launched without any. However, the team has since shifted their stance, with Choi noting, “We wanted to make sure a wider audience of players could play the game.”

Increased Difficulty Sparks Backlash

Despite the introduction of these accessibility features, those choosing to play the Overture DLC on the original, more demanding “Legendary Stalker” difficulty have found themselves facing a notably steeper challenge. The spike in combat intensity has led to a flood of feedback—both positive and negative—prompting the Lies of P subreddit to consolidate all related posts into a single "megathread" to prevent community overload.

This sentiment is echoed across Steam reviews, where one player lamented: “I’m at level 300 and should not be getting 2-shot from basic enemies. It doesn’t help that the enemy grouping is designed for you to have to deal with multiple at once. This wouldn’t be a problem if even one of those enemies didn’t take out half your health with one hit.”

Developer Response & Future Adjustments

In response to this wave of feedback, Neowiz released a new Director's Letter confirming that adjustments are being considered—including further difficulty reductions.

“We're reviewing all of [the player feedback] carefully and are already looking into when to implement some of your suggestions,” said Choi, as reported by Eurogamer. “Among all the feedback, we are paying the closest attention to the combat experience.”

Choi also revealed that certain areas of the game did not turn out as intended, and the team is currently evaluating various tweaks—including changes aimed at softening the difficulty curve. However, due to the central role combat plays in the overall experience, any modifications will require extensive testing and careful implementation. At this time, no official patch date has been announced.

Critical Reception

Despite the controversy, Lies of P has enjoyed strong critical praise, earning an 8/10 from reviewers who praised its deep combat system and narrative depth. The Overture DLC was similarly well-received, also scoring an 8/10. Our review noted: “Even if it’s clearly dancing on the same old strings, Lies of P: Overture is an excellent expansion that adds a whole lot more to a game that was already great.”
