Sony Unveils teamLFG: New PlayStation Studio from Bungie, Crafting Team-Based Action Game with Fighting, MOBA, and 'Frog-Type' Influences

By BellaMay 17,2025

Sony has announced the formation of a new PlayStation studio named teamLFG, which originated from the renowned Destiny and Marathon developer, Bungie. In a recent PlayStation Blog post, Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business Group, expressed his excitement about teamLFG's ambitious incubation project.

The studio's name, teamLFG, derives from the online gaming term 'Looking For Group,' highlighting its focus on social gaming. teamLFG is currently developing a debut game that combines elements from fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and "frog-type games." This innovative title is set in a lighthearted, comedic world within a new, mythic, science-fantasy universe. The studio emphasizes creating games that foster friendship, community, and a sense of belonging among players.

"We are driven by a mission to create games where players can find friendship, community, and belonging," teamLFG stated. The studio aims to build immersive multiplayer worlds that players can engage with for countless hours, learning, playing, and mastering the games. They plan to involve the community in the development process through early access playtests, ensuring they can adapt to player feedback both before and after the game's launch.

teamLFG's project emerged from Bungie during a period of significant layoffs. Following Sony's acquisition, Bungie faced challenges in meeting financial targets, particularly with Destiny 2, leading to layoffs in November 2023 and another round in 2024, affecting a total of 320 employees. Amid these changes, the incubation project was spun off and announced.

Recent developments at Bungie include the full reveal of the extraction shooter Marathon and a confirmed roadmap for Destiny 2's future. Notably, Bungie has no plans for Destiny 3 and has canceled a Destiny spinoff project called Payback. A former Bungie lawyer praised Sony's role in implementing improvements to Destiny 2, suggesting that the parent company's involvement was beneficial.
