In an engaging interview at Gamescom, Mortal Kombat co-founder Ed Boon shed light on how NetherRealm Studios is set to distinguish between Omni-Man and Homelander in the eagerly awaited Mortal Kombat 1. Boon addressed the community's curiosity and slight apprehension about the potential overlap in combat styles between these two iconic characters. He reassured fans that the development team is fully committed to ensuring each hero feels unique and distinct in the game.
Ed Boon Confirms Homelander and Omni-Man Will Play Differently
Speaking with IGN, Boon emphasized the creative liberty NetherRealm has taken with these characters. He noted that while they could easily replicate similar abilities, the team is intentionally avoiding scenarios where Homelander and Omni-Man share identical Superman-like powers. Boon stated, "Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that."
Boon also highlighted how the team drew inspiration from the heroes' actions in their respective shows to craft unique Fatalities for each character. He stressed that the core attacks of Homelander and Omni-Man will significantly differentiate them, addressing the common assumption that they might end up being too similar. "They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, ‘Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters,'" Boon explained.
