Keanu Reeves, famous for his role in John Wick, reportedly spends thousands monthly on a specialist firm to remove impersonator accounts from platforms like TikTok and Meta.
According to The Hollywood Reporter's investigative piece, Reeves employs Loti, a company that processes tens of thousands of social media takedown requests annually on his behalf.
THR notes that the beloved Matrix and Cyberpunk 2077 star (remember "you're breathtaking!") might be the internet's most impersonated celebrity. His A-list status and absence from official social media channels fuel public curiosity, leaving room for digital fraudsters.
Scammers exploit this vacuum by fabricating deepfakes showing Reeves endorsing political causes, promoting questionable products, or even building fraudulent relationships to extort money. His profile proves particularly vulnerable to such schemes, with generative AI making deception increasingly sophisticated.
Reeves isn't alone in facing this issue. Multiple celebrities have publicly denounced unauthorized AI impersonations. In 2023, Tom Hanks warned fans about his AI likeness appearing in a dental plan ad without permission. When fake videos portraying Morgan Freeman's "niece" circulated, the actor acknowledged supporters who flagged the AI-generated voice clones.
Most recently in May, Jamie Lee Curtis turned to Instagram to directly address Meta's CEO after failing to remove an unauthorized AI advertisement using her image for what she called "complete misinformation I never approved."
CAA's strategic development head Alexandra Shannon told THR that artists are growing increasingly concerned about digital impersonation, urging the implementation of protective regulations.
