Deadlock has unveiled a significant update after months of anticipation, transforming its four-lane map into a three-lane configuration. Dive into the details of these upcoming changes and stay updated with Deadlock's latest developments.
Deadlock Announces Major Update After Months
Four-lane Map Transforms into Three Lanes
Deadlock's latest major update simplifies the game's map structure by reducing the four lanes to three. Valve shared comprehensive details about this map rework and other adjustments on Steam on February 26, 2025.
The redesign involves not only condensing the lanes but also implementing a broad spectrum of map-wide modifications, including visuals, building layouts, pathways, neutral camps, air vents, breakables, powerup buffs, juke spots, and the mid boss. Deadlock, known for its unique third-person perspective in the MOBA genre, had initially introduced a fourth lane, which added complexity to the traditional three-lane setup.
Additionally, the update modifies the mechanics of farming enemy troopers, eliminating the need for players to last-hit enemies to generate Soul Orbs, thereby simplifying early laning phases. The patch notes also highlight enhancements in the game's netcode and client performance.
A Crucial Update for Deadlock
This update could be the revitalization Deadlock's community has been waiting for. Following a peak of 171,490 active players in September 2024, the game experienced a 90% drop in player count, with only around 17,000 players this past month.
Valve Developer Yoshi announced on Deadlock's Discord server in January 2025 that the team would shift from a bi-weekly update schedule to a more flexible approach. Yoshi stated, "Moving forward, major patches will not adhere to a fixed schedule. These updates will be more substantial, though less frequent, with hotfixes released as needed. We're excited to enhance the game throughout the new year."
