Blizzard Devs Vote to Unionize

By AaliyahOct 10,2025

Blizzard's Story and Franchise Development team (SFD) has officially unionized with the Communications Workers of America, as confirmed by today's press release.

The SFD unit includes employees responsible for Blizzard's cinematic productions, animations, trailers, marketing content, in-game cutscenes, and narrative development across franchises, along with archival specialists and corporate historians.

This group becomes the latest among thousands of Microsoft and Activision Blizzard employees to organize under the company's labor neutrality agreement in recent years. Following last year's unionization of the World of Warcraft team and May's organization by Overwatch developers, they join established unions including Raven Software (which secured its first contract this month), Zenimax QA (contracted in May), Bethesda's union, and others.

"Having spent over ten years at Blizzard, I've witnessed both its golden eras and challenging periods," said organizing committee member and lead editor Bucky Fisk. "While historically known for career longevity, we've seen that stability diminish. Our union ensures we protect what makes Blizzard unique, establishes proper transparency in corporate decisions, and guarantees fair policy application for all employees."
