Kesenian Tradisional Batak Mandailing: Gordang Sambilan
Gordang Sambilan merupakan warisan budaya Batak Mandailing yang kaya akan nilai sejarah dan seni. "Gordang" berarti gendang atau bedug, sementara "sambilan" berarti sembilan. Sesuai namanya, alat musik ini terdiri dari sembilan buah gendang dengan ukuran dan diameter berbeda, menghasilkan beragam nada yang khas.
Biasanya, enam orang memainkan Gordang Sambilan. Peran setiap gendang unik: gendang terkecil (1 dan 2) berperan sebagai taba-taba, gendang ke-3 sebagai tepe-tepe, gendang ke-4 dan ke-5 sebagai kudong-kudong (dengan gendang ke-5, kudong-kudong nabalik, memiliki irama berbeda), gendang ke-6 sebagai pasilion, dan gendang ke-7, 8, dan 9 sebagai jangat.
Dahulu, Gordang Sambilan hanya dimainkan dalam upacara sakral. Namun, seiring perkembangan zaman, alat musik ini kini sering menghiasi berbagai acara, termasuk pernikahan, penyambutan tamu, dan perayaan hari besar. Sebagai bukti pengakuan atas nilai budayanya, Gordang Sambilan bahkan pernah dipentaskan di Istana Presiden. [2]
