Super Meat Boy makes a bloody triumphant return at today's Xbox Games Showcase with the reveal of Super Meat Boy 3D. As the name suggests, this fully 3D adaptation of the cult classic platformer launches on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC in early 2026.
The gameplay trailer delivers precisely what fans expect: lightning-fast, visceral platforming through brutal obstacle courses filled with deadly machinery. Our meaty protagonist bounces through hazards with slippery wall-sliding physics and pixel-perfect jumps, leaving crimson trails of...well, meat essence wherever he lands. The transition to 3D promises to revolutionize the series' iconic platforming mechanics, navigation possibilities, and challenge design.
The franchise began with Edmund McMillen and Jonathan McEntee's 2008 Flash game before achieving cult status with 2010's Super Meat Boy. Celebrated for its razor-sharp controls and instant respawns in compact levels, the series became synonymous with demanding yet satisfying precision platforming. Its signature gore remains intact, starring a hero literally made of meat constantly confronting meat-grinding hazards.
While 2020's Super Meat Boy Forever launched without McMillen's involvement, it remains unclear whether he's contributing to this 3D iteration.
Curiously, the trailer opens with Mario's iconic warp pipe—an odd inclusion given Super Meat Boy 3D's current absence from Nintendo platforms and its debut at an Xbox event. No official explanation has surfaced yet.
