Square Enix Reveals Kingdom Hearts 4: Shares Screenshots and Promises an Unforgettable Experience

By SamuelMay 18,2025

Square Enix has once again confirmed the development of Kingdom Hearts 4 in a recent social media post that leaves no room for doubt. The message, accompanied by captivating images, reaffirms their commitment to the eagerly awaited sequel.

Just yesterday, Square Enix announced the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, a GPS-based action-RPG for mobile devices. However, they took this opportunity to reassure fans that the development team remains "hard at work" on Kingdom Hearts 4.

"We’re currently working hard on Kingdom Hearts 4 and will continue pouring ourselves into the game’s development. We’re dedicated to making this an experience that lives up to your expectations!" the developer stated in their first of two posts. The accompanying collage of screenshots offers a glimpse into the game, showcasing characters, cinematic scenes, combat, platforming, and a formidable enemy.

"We’ve seen how excited you are, and we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts," the second post continued. "We are equally excited and can’t wait to share more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right. Until then, we appreciate your patience. Thank you for your continued support."

This update marks the first significant news about the highly anticipated sequel in months, following a tiny, cryptic tease for Kingdom Hearts 4 back in January. Despite being unveiled in September 2022 with a full cinematic trailer, Square Enix had remained relatively silent until now.

Kingdom Hearts series director Tetsuya Nomura has hinted that Kingdom Hearts 4 will, after 22 years and 18 games, finally shift the Kingdom Hearts narrative towards its conclusion.

Regarding the canceled Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, Square Enix expressed their "heartfelt apologies to everyone who have been looking forward" to it. The project was canceled because it was "determined that it would be difficult [...] to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time."
