Sony addressed the near-day-long PlayStation Network (PSN) outage this past weekend, attributing it to an unspecified "operational issue." The company's social media statement offered no further explanation of the cause or preventative measures.
To compensate PlayStation Plus subscribers, Sony will automatically add five extra days to their subscriptions.
Gamers experienced widespread disruptions throughout the outage, with over one-third reporting login failures and others encountering server crashes. This incident highlights concerns among players who have criticized Sony's requirement of a PSN account, even for single-player PC games.
This isn't the first major PSN disruption. A significant data breach in April 2011 resulted in over 20 days of connectivity problems. While less severe, the recent outage has left PS5 users frustrated by Sony's limited communication regarding the incident.
