PlayStation Portal Hits $124 Prime Day Low, a Must-Buy PS5 Accessory.

By ChristianDec 31,2025

I've spotted numerous deals on the PlayStation Portal via Amazon Resale, but none have been this aggressively priced. For this year's Prime Day sale starting today, Amazon is applying an extra 30% discount to a selection of its Amazon Resale items. This includes video game accessories like the Used - Like New PlayStation Portal, bringing the price down to just $124.12 with complimentary shipping. Items categorized as "Like New" are typically brand new and unused, though the packaging may have minor damage. A manufacturer's warranty from Sony may not be included, but all Amazon Resale purchases are protected by a 30-day return window. This deal seemed too good to pass up, so I purchased one for myself.

The PS Portal is Sony's handheld gaming accessory for the PS5, resembling an extended, split-pad DualSense controller with an 8-inch 1080p LCD screen embedded in the center. It effectively transforms your PS5 into a portable gaming device by streaming games directly from your console at frame rates up to 60fps. The controller incorporates the full suite of DualSense features, including haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and a touch-sensitive area that replaces the standard touchpad. You can even stream games when you're away from home, provided you have a remarkably stable and high-speed internet connection. It's crucial to remember that the PS Portal is not an independent gaming system; it functions exclusively as a remote player for the PlayStation 5, meaning a PS5 console is required for operation.

A recent update means you no longer need a PS5 to play games on the Portal. Instead of being restricted to streaming from a $500 console to a $200 handheld, Sony has rolled out a feature enabling direct game streaming from its PlayStation Plus cloud service. This eliminates the need for a local PS5. Portal users can now connect either to their own PS5 or directly to Sony's cloud servers (thanks to new beta updates released in April). Choosing the cloud option grants instant access to a library of over 120 games, featuring titles like Ghost of Tsushima, Resident Evil 3 Remake, The Last of Us Part 1 Remastered, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Please note that this requires a subscription to the premium tier of PlayStation Plus, but at $18 per month, it's a more appealing prospect than purchasing every new game individually.

It's important to mention that the PlayStation Portal isn't the sole method for streaming PS5 games over your home Wi-Fi. You can achieve similar functionality by installing the PS Remote Play app on a mobile device or other handhelds like the Steam Deck. However, this setup is often more complex and results in the loss of key DualSense controller features.

PlayStation Portal Review by Seth Macy

"The PlayStation Portal is the most surprising device I've ever ended up loving after starting with considerable skepticism. The experience is vastly superior to using a phone with a clip-on controller, and its performance exceeded my expectations. I truly appreciate the freedom it provides to play my PS5 from any location with solid WiFi, which was especially useful when my family was using the main TV to (somewhat ironically) play the Switch. While it's essential to remember that this is not a standalone device and absolutely requires a PlayStation 5 to function, the primary limitations preventing the Portal from being truly exceptional are its current inability to connect to Wi-Fi networks that require a browser login and the lack of Bluetooth support for audio. For now, it's an excellent device that stands as the best available solution for PlayStation Remote Play. Were it not for those two puzzling omissions, I would recommend it as a must-have for every PS5 owner who enjoys handheld gaming or frequently battles for TV time."
