The chilling paranormal investigation game Phasmophobia by Kinetic Games is headed to Hollywood.
Blumhouse Brings Ghost Hunting Thrills to Big Screen
Horror powerhouse Blumhouse – known for hits like Five Nights at Freddy's, The Conjuring, and M3gan – has teamed up with the UK developer for a feature film adaptation. Details remain scarce for now, with no writers, directors, or cast members yet announced.
"This is a monumental moment for our entire Kinetic Games team and just the beginning of something truly special," shared game director Daniel "Dknighter" Knight. "When we launched Phasmophobia five years ago, we never imagined it would achieve this level of success. We're incredibly grateful to our passionate community who helped establish Phasmophobia as a gaming phenomenon."
"Collaborating with Blumhouse and Atomic Monster opens an exciting new chapter for our game, and we look forward to sharing updates as production progresses."
What Makes Phasmophobia Special?
This four-player cooperative horror game tasks paranormal investigators with gathering evidence of supernatural activity in haunted locations. Since its 2020 early access release, Phasmophobia inspired a new ghost-hunting genre and surpassed 23 million sales through its unique blend of cooperative scares and investigative gameplay.
Later this month's Chronicle update will revamp major systems including evidence collection, the investigator's journal, and progression mechanics.
The game earned recognition among IGN's 25 Best Horror Games of All Time – does it deserve its spot?
A Track Record of Game Adaptations
Blumhouse's previous video game adaptation, Five Nights at Freddy's, received mixed reception (including our 4/10 review criticizing its excessive plot over core security-cam thrills). Their next FNaF installment arrives December 2025.
