Oblivion Remastered Lacks Official Mod Support, Despite Thriving Original Mod Community

By AdamMay 18,2025

Bethesda has officially launched The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, surprising fans with its immediate availability. During the reveal livestream, the developers highlighted significant enhancements over the original release, promising a refreshed experience for both new and returning players. However, a notable omission in the announcement was the absence of official mod support for the remastered version.

According to Bethesda's support page, Oblivion Remastered will not feature official mod support. This decision is particularly surprising given Bethesda's longstanding commitment to the modding community, having previously released official modding tools like the Creation Kits for games such as Fallout 4, Skyrim, and Starfield. No specific reasons were provided for this exclusion, leaving fans puzzled and somewhat disappointed.

Despite the lack of official support, the modding community remains undeterred. Enthusiasts are already experimenting with the old Creation Kit designed for the original game, and reports suggest that mods are currently compatible with the remastered version. On platforms like Reddit, modders are actively discussing strategies to adapt their mods to the new engine, which is now powered by Unreal Engine 5.

In an intriguing development, fans have begun exploring the potential of Oblivion Remastered in VR. Just three hours post-launch, players utilized UEVR, a tool that converts games for VR compatibility, to test the remastered game in a virtual reality environment. YouTuber LunchAndVR shared an early test video on their channel, demonstrating gameplay at 70 fps on a setup featuring a GeForce RTX 4090, Intel Core i9-13900, and 64GB RAM, with medium graphics settings and DLSS enabled. This early success suggests that with further optimization, Oblivion Remastered could offer a compelling VR experience.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S (including Xbox Game Pass), and PC. For the latest updates and more information about the game, be sure to check out our related articles.
