Marvel Rivals Developer Considers Nintendo Switch 2 Release

By NoraMay 16,2025

The wildly popular hero shooter, Marvel Rivals, has taken the gaming world by storm on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. However, developer NetEase has been clear that the game won't be making its way to the current Nintendo Switch, much to the disappointment of Nintendo fans eager to dive into the action. But what about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2?

We had the chance to ask Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu about this at the recent DICE Summit in Las Vegas. The news is promising for Switch enthusiasts: a release on the Nintendo Switch 2 seems to be on the table.

Wu shared, "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. And whenever we find that we could provide great performance for our game on Switch 2, we're open to that. The reason why we didn't launch it onto the Switch, it was the first generation of that device they cannot provide a great experience for our gameplay. So if it could achieve that goal, we're open to that."

The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially unveiled last month. Although details on its capabilities are still sparse, it promises to be a more powerful and larger version of the beloved original. One intriguing feature is the potential for mouse-like controller functionality, which could enhance the experience of playing shooters like Marvel Rivals, bringing it closer to a PC-like experience. However, the exact implementation of this feature is yet to be clarified.

As of now, the Nintendo Switch 2 does not have a confirmed release date, but a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2, which might shed more light on this eagerly awaited console. Meanwhile, Marvel Rivals is currently available on other platforms and has received high praise. In our 8/10 review, we noted that while it follows in the footsteps of previous hero shooters, "Marvel Rivals has firmly placed itself in a strong position to take the crown for itself." Fans can look forward to the addition of The Human Torch and The Thing to the game on February 21.
