Legendary composer John Williams is reuniting with Steven Spielberg for the acclaimed director's currently untitled 2026 UFO film. The announcement came from Damian Woetzel, president of the prestigious Juilliard School, during an event examining Williams' artistic contributions.
As reported by music journalist Doug Adams, Woetzel shared with attendees that Williams is currently in Los Angeles "doing what he does best: collaborating with Steven Spielberg on the upcoming project."
Information remains limited about Spielberg's mysterious UFO film, which first entered discussions in mid-2024. What we do know is that it's being written by longtime Spielberg associate David Koepp, screenwriter of Jurassic Park, The Lost World, War of the Worlds, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, with Universal Pictures providing studio backing.
The 2026 production will mark the 30th Spielberg film featuring Williams' musical direction. This count excludes his advisory role on 2021's West Side Story and his composition work for 2023's Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (directed by James Mangold).
Williams had suggested in 2022 that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny would conclude his film-scoring career, but the composer revised his statement in 2024, clarifying, "If an intriguing project emerged with a manageable schedule, I wouldn't want to exclude any possibilities. All options remain open."
John Williams stands among Hollywood's most revered composers. The 93-year-old cinematic music legend has received 54 Academy Award nominations with five wins, creating iconic scores for Jaws, Jurassic Park, Home Alone, Saving Private Ryan, Superman, E.T., Indiana Jones, Schindler's List, Harry Potter, Star Wars, and numerous other classics.
