The Batman 2 script wraps as Reeves shares first look

By HunterFeb 09,2026

Director Matt Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin have completed their script for The Batman Part 2.

The highly anticipated update for Robert Pattinson's long-developing Batman sequel arrived via Reeves' social media post. Shared on X/Twitter, the black-and-white photo initially appears to be a simple shot of the creative partners - until viewers notice the script bearing Wayne Enterprises' bat insignia resting prominently between them.

While Reeves and Tomlin didn't explicitly confirm script completion, Variety verified the finished draft. This development follows DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn's recent comments to EW, predicting they'd receive the sequel script before month's end.

"We feel really good about it," Gunn stated. "Matt's excited - we talk regularly. I'm completely enthusiastic about the project. While we eagerly await reading the script, we haven't seen it yet."

The 2022 original film redefined Gotham City with its noir-inspired aesthetic, resonating strongly with critics (including our perfect 10/10 review) and audiences. Its commercial success proved equally impressive, grossing $772 million globally per Box Office Mojo.

Despite spin-offs like Colin Farrell's The Penguin series helping maintain interest, fans have anxiously awaited updates on the cinematic continuation. DC Studios has meticulously planned its follow-up strategy.

Gunn has consistently emphasized giving Reeves creative freedom: "People need patience with Matt's process. Great films require proper development time - he shouldn't rush simply because audiences loved his initial vision."

After several production delays, The Batman Part 2 currently holds an October 1, 2027 release date. Notably, Pattinson won't appear in DCU's parallel Batman project The Brave and the Bold, marking Gunn's distinction between Reeves' standalone universe and DC's interconnected films.

With dual Bat-projects progressing simultaneously, Gunn acknowledges Batman represents DC's "most complex current challenge." For further Gotham adventures, explore our guide to upcoming DC films or our comprehensive Batman viewing timeline.
