Capcom Hints at Resident Evil 9 in Cheerful Video Marking 10M RE4 Players

By StellaMay 27,2025

Capcom has subtly teased Resident Evil 9 in a video celebrating the 10 million player milestone for Resident Evil 4. Released on April 25, the video features Ada Wong conversing with a well-known villain, then transitions to Leon surrounded by infected enemies wearing party hats as they approach a church.

The scene shifts to Dr Salvador playing a rock song on his chainsaw as if it were a guitar, with Leon fist-pumping in the foreground. Behind him, a rustic sign reads "Thank you for playing."

Here's the video in full:

However, when viewed sideways, the boards on the sign form the Roman numeral "IX," representing the number 9. While this might seem like a coincidence, horror game leaker Dusk Golem points out that the lower plank on the sign, crucial for forming the numeral, was intentionally added and not present in earlier parts of the video.

"I know what you did here," said one surprised responder, adding a wide-eyed emoji.

PlayCapcom has confirmed that the next mainline entry in the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil 9, will be directed by Resident Evil 7 director Koshi Nakanishi.

"It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7]," Nakanishi said at the time. "But I found it, and to be honest it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." It's speculated, though not confirmed, that the game will be set on an island inspired by Singapore.
