The Dexcom G6 and G6 Pro Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) Systems are essential tools for individuals managing type 1 or type 2 diabetes, offering real-time glucose readings every five minutes. These systems are approved for use in children aged 2 years and older, providing an invaluable resource for continuous monitoring and management of diabetes without the need for routine fingersticks. The Dexcom G6 and G6 Pro are designed to facilitate diabetes treatment decisions with zero fingersticks and no calibration required, although fingersticks are necessary if symptoms do not align with the readings.

One of the standout features of the Dexcom G6 and G6 Pro is their ability to deliver personalized alerts and alarms directly to your smart device. These alerts help you stay informed about your glucose levels, enabling you to take timely action when your glucose is too high or too low. The Alert Schedule feature allows you to customize a second set of alerts, tailoring them to your daily routine, such as setting different alert settings during work hours. You can also personalize alert sounds, including a Vibrate-Only option for your phone, though the Urgent Low Alarm remains non-optional and cannot be turned off.

The Always Sound setting, enabled by default, ensures that you receive critical Dexcom CGM Alerts even when your phone is set to silent, vibrate, or in Do Not Disturb mode. This feature allows you to mute calls and texts while still being alerted to urgent glucose levels, including the Urgent Low Alarm, Low and High Glucose alerts, Urgent Low Soon Alert, and Rise and Fall Rate alerts. A handy Home screen icon indicates whether your alerts will sound or not. For safety reasons, the Urgent Low Alarm and three other alerts—Transmitter Failed, Sensor Failed, and App Stopped—cannot be silenced.

Additional features of the Dexcom G6 and G6 Pro enhance your diabetes management experience. The Share function enables you to send your glucose data in real time to up to ten followers using the Dexcom Follow app, which requires an internet connection. Health Connect access allows you to share retrospective glucose data with third-party apps, while the Quick Glance feature lets you check your glucose data on your smart device's lock screen. For those using Wear OS, integration with these devices means you can view glucose alerts and alarms directly from your watch.
