Pesten With Cards

Pesten With Cards is a classic Dutch card game known as Bullying With Cards.

Pesten With Cards, a classic Dutch card game literally translating to Bullying With Cards, shares similarities with other global games like Mau-Mau, Crazy Eights, Shedding, Puque, Чешский Дурак, Фараон, Крокодил, Tschau Sepp, or Uno. The objective is to be the first player to discard all your cards. Before playing your final card, you must announce "Last Card." Forgetting this announcement results in a penalty where you draw two additional cards.

The game can be played using multiple decks including jokers. Each player starts with seven cards, while the remaining cards form a face-down stock pile. The top card is revealed to begin the game. Players take turns clockwise, and if a "Pest-card" is revealed initially, it is treated as played by the dealer.

On your turn, you must play a card by placing it on the pile. You can only play a card matching the number or suit of the top card, except for Jokers and Jacks, which can be played on any card. If you cannot play, you draw a card from the stock. If the drawn card is playable, you may choose to play it immediately or keep it.

Last card

When you have one card left, you must announce "Last Card" by clicking the "Last Card" button above your cards. Forgetting to announce it before playing your final card to win results in a penalty—you draw two cards and your last card remains unplayed. Incorrectly announcing "Last Card" also incurs a two-card penalty. You can press the "Last Card" button even when it is not your turn to ensure timely announcement.

To win the round, you must play your last card, but it cannot be a special card (see below for details).

Special Cards

Certain cards trigger special actions when played. The Netherlands has many variations, so you can configure these actions in the game options to match your preferences. Available actions include:

Joker

The next player draws five cards. If that player holds a Joker, they can play it, making the following player draw ten cards. Each subsequent Joker adds five more cards. Players who draw cards cannot play them, and the turn passes to the next player.

Two

The next player draws two cards. If that player has a Two, they can play it, forcing the next player to draw four cards. Each Two adds two more cards. If enabled, a Joker can be played on a Two, adding five cards instead. A Two cannot be played on a Joker. Players who draw cards skip their turn.

Seven

You must play another card immediately. Remember to announce "Last Card" if playing your final card. If you cannot play, you must draw a card from the stock.

Eight

The next player skips their turn, and the following player plays next. In a two-player game, this allows you to play again, similar to the Seven card.
