Zenless Zone Zero Voice Actor Replacements Announced

By IsabellaMar 13,2025

Two Zenless Zone Zero voice actors, Emeri Chase (Soldier 11) and Nicholas Thurkettle (Lycaon), claim they learned of their replacements via the game's patch notes, highlighting the ongoing impact of the SAG-AFTRA strike and the debate surrounding generative AI in the video game industry. While Zenless Zone Zero, developed by HoYoverse, isn't directly subject to the strike (its development predating the July 25th, 2024, strike commencement), the actors' decisions stem from a desire for AI protection and solidarity with striking union members. Chase, unwilling to work without a SAG Interim Agreement guaranteeing AI rights, stated that while replacement was a possibility, they hoped HoYoverse would wait for their return. Thurkettle, a non-union member, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the existential threat AI poses to voice actors and his willingness to forgo the role to advocate for protection. HoYoVerse has yet to comment. This situation mirrors a December incident where Activision recast Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies characters, replacing Zeke Alton and Julie Nathanson. Alton, while not objecting to the replacement itself, expressed concern about the lack of crediting potentially misrepresenting his abilities.
