Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to Feature Cloud Saves

By GabriellaMay 17,2025

Nintendo has confirmed that the The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom version for the Nintendo Switch 2 will indeed support cloud saves, putting to rest recent concerns among fans. We already knew that the Nintendo Switch 2 would feature enhanced versions of several games from the original Switch, including The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. However, a recent disclaimer on Nintendo's website had sparked worries that this particular game might not support the cloud save functionality that many players rely on.

Initially, the product page for Tears of the Kingdom's Switch 2 edition included a notice that read: "Please note: this software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature." This statement led to confusion and concern among the gaming community.

PlayHowever, Nintendo has since updated its website to clarify the situation. While the page for Donkey Kong Bananza no longer mentions cloud saves at all, the disclaimer on the Tears of the Kingdom page has been revised to state: "Save data created in the second save data slot in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch."

This updated disclaimer should reassure Switch 2 owners. It implies that players will be able to transfer their existing Switch 1 saves for Tears of the Kingdom to the new Switch 2, but transferring saves from the Switch 2 back to the original system will not be possible, as noted by Eurogamer.

The page for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition now includes a similar message, indicating a consistent approach to save data transfers across these titles.

In other news, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 went live overnight, maintaining a price point of $449.99. As expected, the response has been enthusiastic. For more details, check out IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
