Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii: A Blend of Manly Drama and Comedic Chaos
RGG Studio promises a unique blend of serious storytelling and over-the-top humor in their upcoming title, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. This latest installment will feature a "manly drama" centered around Goro Majima, a character known for his comedic antics, but who will take on a more serious persona in this iteration, at least initially.
Director Masayoshi Yokoyama highlights Majima's serious pursuit of his goals and the bonds he forms throughout his wild adventure. Producer Ryosuke Horii emphasizes that while the game will contain its share of comedic moments, the core narrative focuses on Majima's passionate journey. Horii also notes Majima's unique qualities, distinct from series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu, making him a compelling lead for this reality-bending adventure. The team aimed for a balance between the pirate theme, Majima's personality, and the overall Like a Dragon feel, striving for a rich and varied action experience.
The developers consciously avoided a predictable storyline, opting for a wilder, more extravagant approach while maintaining a strong dramatic core.
Majima's Maji Festival: A Japanese Celebration
To celebrate the game's launch, RGG Studio is hosting Majima's Maji Festival across six Japanese cities. The tour, which began December 1st, 2024 in Sapporo, concludes with events in Nagoya (January 18th) and Tokyo (January 25th).
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii promises an exciting pirate adventure with intense combat, naval battles, a vibrant cast, and a compelling story. It launches on February 21st for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
