Following Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty’s teaser last month regarding the return of Microsoft’s annual Xbox Developer Direct showcase, the publisher has officially confirmed the schedule. The 2026 Dev Direct will broadcast live on Thursday, January 22 at 10am PT. Viewers can tune in via IGN or our YouTube channel for a live stream.
Booty previously verified that renowned Xbox Game Studios developer Playground Games would participate, and we now know with certainty that two of its highly anticipated titles will be featured: Forza Horizon 6 and Fable.
With both games slated for release this year as major first-party offerings—and given the lack of substantial gameplay footage so far—a detailed look is long overdue. According to Microsoft’s morning announcement, the showcase will deliver exactly that.
The event will also highlight Beast of Reincarnation, an upcoming action RPG from Pokémon creator Game Freak, which was initially revealed during last year’s Xbox Showcase in June.
Microsoft has not yet confirmed if other titles under its umbrella will appear, such as Gears of War: E-Day, the prequel returning Delta Squad to the era before Emergence Day; or Halo: Campaign Evolved, an Unreal Engine 5 remake of the original game’s campaign (you can read my first impressions here).
However, Microsoft traditionally includes at least one surprise title. Could this be the debut for the newly leaked Life is Strange: Reunion? It is worth noting that the franchise’s previous entry, Life is Strange: Double Exposure, was unveiled during the Xbox Showcase in June 2024.
