The prospect of playing the GameCube version of The Wind Waker on the Switch 2 has sparked excitement among fans, but it's not the end of the story for Wind Waker HD. Dive into the latest from Nintendo and discover how Wind Waker HD enhances the classic game.
Wind Waker GameCube Version Coming To Switch 2
During the Nintendo Direct for Switch 2 on April 2, it was announced that the beloved GameCube version of The Wind Waker will be making its way to the new console. This news naturally led fans to speculate about the fate of Wind Waker HD on the Switch 2.
However, clarity was provided by Nate Bihldorff, Nintendo of America's Senior Vice President of Product Development. In a conversation with Kinda Funny Games Daily host Tim Gettys at a Switch 2 press event in New York on April 9, Bihldorff made it clear that the possibility of porting Wind Waker HD to the Switch 2 is still very much in consideration. Gettys shared, "I did ask if having The Wind Waker on NSO precludes it from the Switch 2 getting the actual Wii U port at some point, and he was very quick to say 'no, all options are on the table'. Obviously, nothing is confirmed one way or another."
First Released in 2002
The original Wind Waker graced the GameCube in 2002 in Japan and 2003 in the West, captivating gamers with its unique cel-shaded art style. Fast forward to 2013, and Wind Waker HD brought this classic to the Wii U with significant upgrades. These enhancements included a leap from 480p to stunning HD visuals, improved lighting, the addition of gyro controls for aiming weapons, faster sailing mechanics, and a host of other gameplay tweaks. For those with the original Switch, a port of Wind Waker HD could be their only chance to experience these improvements.
In related news, the game libraries previously known as Nintendo Switch Online classics are being rebranded as Nintendo Classics. Nintendo has announced that "Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members will soon be able to play The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, F-ZERO GX, and SOULCALIBUR II on Nintendo Switch 2, with more games coming in the future." These titles will also feature new in-game options such as a retro screen filter and widescreen gameplay, enhancing the nostalgic experience for players.
