The much-discussed Persona 4 remake appears increasingly likely, as a voice actor from the original game confirms they won’t return for the unannounced title.
Yuri Lowenthal, known for voicing Yosuke Hanamura in Persona 4 and its spin-offs, shared on BlueSky today that he won’t reprise his role in the Persona 4 remake.
"For those asking, I won’t be back as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake," Lowenthal stated. "I reached out, maybe even pleaded, but they’ve decided against my return."
Presumably, ‘they’ refers to Atlus, though the company has not yet officially acknowledged a Persona 4 remake. We’ve contacted Sega/Atlus for comment.
Video game actors under SAG-AFTRA continue their strike, advocating for protections, including against AI usage. While Lowenthal is a SAG-AFTRA member, it’s uncertain if this influenced casting decisions. The union noted in a March statement that negotiations with the industry remain "frustratingly far apart."
Despite no official word, speculation about a Persona 4 remake has persisted. A domain registration earlier this year fueled anticipation, with leakers previously hinting at the project’s existence.
That said, a former voice actor confirming the remake’s development is an unexpected way for such news to surface. Following the success of Persona 3 Reload, a Persona 4 remake seems a logical step.
As for timing, Persona 3 Reload was unveiled during Xbox’s 2023 Game Showcase in summer. This could point to another reveal during this year’s wave of summer gaming announcements.
In related news, the Persona 5 spin-off, Persona 5: The Phantom X, launches on mobile and PC on June 26, 2025, for fans craving more Persona 5 content.
