Universal Studios Unveils First-Ever Fallout Haunted House for Halloween Horror Nights 2025

By EthanJun 17,2025

In an exclusive reveal, IGN has confirmed that Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights in both Orlando and Hollywood will be introducing brand-new haunted houses inspired by two major entertainment franchises. One of the most anticipated additions is a Fallout-themed haunted house based on Prime Video’s hit series, alongside a Five Nights at Freddy’s experience tied directly to the movie adaptation. Notably, the latter will feature animatronic designs brought to life by the legendary Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, the same team responsible for the film’s unforgettable creations.

Fallout-Themed Haunted House: A Journey Through the Wasteland

The Fallout haunted house promises fans an immersive trek through some of the most iconic moments from the show’s first season—and beyond. The attraction opens its doors on August 29 at Universal Orlando Resort and September 4 at Universal Studios Hollywood. Guests will begin their journey inside Vault 33, following Lucy MacLean as she attempts to flee a brutal massacre while uncovering a dark, hidden truth. From there, they’ll venture into the treacherous Wasteland, where danger lurks around every corner—Scavengers, Raiders, and even mutated RAD Roaches await those brave enough to explore.

As guests progress through the experience, they’ll pass through key locations such as the Super Duper Mart, encounter the mysterious Ghoul, and come face-to-face with Maximus and his towering T-60 armor. Each environment has been meticulously designed to transport visitors directly into the world of Fallout, combining retro-futuristic aesthetics with post-apocalyptic horror.

Creative Vision Behind the Experience

John Murdy, Creative Director/Executive Producer at Universal Studios Hollywood, and Matthew Flood, Senior Show Director at Universal Orlando Resort, shared their passion for bringing the Fallout universe to life at Halloween Horror Nights. Their goal was to create an experience that not only delivers scares but also resonates deeply with fans of the game and series.

“Where else are you going to get to say that you walked through a Fallout vault and then into the Wasteland and saw ghouls?” – Matthew Flood

Murdy added that the Fallout universe offers a unique opportunity for Universal’s creative team, noting how the 1950s-inspired retro-futurism and nuclear wasteland setting provide a fresh take on horror for Halloween Horror Nights. “It’s like tapping into a whole different realm of horror,” he said.

Unique Differences Between Orlando and Hollywood

While both parks will share many elements of the Fallout experience, each will offer distinct features. In Hollywood, the T-60 armor appears as a full animatronic figure, while Orlando includes a climactic battle sequence featuring the armor. Additionally, Orlando’s version includes a special appearance from Filly, offering fans a real-life reimagining of key in-game and on-screen battles.

Murdy also teased that each location would introduce unique creature designs, with Hollywood’s version featuring a terrifyingly realistic Yao Guai Bear—an element sure to elevate the fear factor of the already intense haunted house.

Attention to Detail and Hidden Easter Eggs

The creative teams have gone above and beyond to ensure that the Fallout haunted house isn’t just about jump scares and horror—it’s a narrative-rich experience filled with intricate details and hidden references for hardcore fans. Murdy revealed that each writing treatment for the house spans approximately 100 pages, covering both technical execution and story progression.

“We want to have so many different Easter Eggs that certain people won't particularly notice, but that the real hardcore fans of the video game and the series will.” – John Murdy

Flood hinted at a custom Pip-Boy design integrated into the experience and encouraged guests to look closely at storefront windows and building exteriors for subtle surprises. He noted that repeat visitors might catch more of these hidden gems when they’re not too busy being terrified.

Excitement Builds for Halloween Horror Nights

When asked what they were most excited about for this year’s event, Murdy highlighted the transition from the claustrophobic Vault to the expansive Wasteland—but admitted that the Super Duper Mart remains one of his favorite sections for delivering pure Horror Nights-style terror.

Five Nights at Freddy’s Movie Experience Coming to HHN

Though further details remain under wraps, Murdy expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming Five Nights at Freddy’s experience, teasing that it will feel like “literally living in the movie.” Fans can expect a truly cinematic and chilling recreation of the film’s atmosphere, enhanced by the expertise of Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.
