Tides of Annihilation, drawing inspiration from Arthurian legend, casts players as Gwendolyn, a young woman battling alongside spectral knights to rescue her family and mend a fractured world.
The game unfolds in a ravaged, modern-day London, overrun by a mysterious otherworldly invasion. Players will confront waves of enemies alongside their ghostly allies, the primary foes being colossal, roaming knights. Combat involves a unique mechanic: scaling these gigantic knights for intense, close-quarters battles.
While boasting impressive visuals, the game's narrative unfortunately lacks a compelling hook. Recent soulslike titles have successfully reimagined classic stories—the relatively unknown "Journey to the West" and the twisted Pinocchio tale in Lies of P, for example. However, the King Arthur narrative feels overused, preventing Tides of Annihilation from establishing a truly distinctive identity despite its visual appeal.
