Just a few months after the digital release of the Switzerland expansion, Ticket to Ride is back with another fan-favorite map: Japan. This marks the first time the Japan Expansion has transitioned from a physical to a digital format, introducing a significant twist. Unlike traditional gameplay, success in this expansion hinges on teamwork and collaboration as much as individual achievement.
The Japan map brings the iconic Bullet Train network to the game, featuring high-speed shared routes that span the country. These routes are available for all players to use, but everyone must contribute to their construction. Failing to collaborate can result in a hefty 20-point penalty at the end of the match, adding a layer of tension between competition and cooperation.
In addition to the strategic elements, the expansion introduces two new characters deeply rooted in Japanese culture. Nakanishi Kimiko, a travel blogger, explores the country's vibrant festivals with her loyal dog, while Moriyama Isamu, a Gyoji referee, brings a traditional aspect to the board, connecting players to Japan's rich history.
The expansion also adds four new railcars to the game. The Ichi Eki Saki train and Tsuki Sleeper carriage provide a serene, scenic journey, while the Isogaba Maware train and Hayai carriage are designed for speed, ideal for navigating Japan's fast-paced routes.
This expansion is especially fitting as Japan is renowned for its stunning springtime scenery, thanks to the blooming sakura. You can download Ticket to Ride now for $6.99 or your local equivalent. For more information, visit the official Facebook page.
