Sydney Sweeney, known for her role in Madame Web, is set to star in the upcoming film adaptation of Hazelight's critically acclaimed game, Split Fiction. The project, helmed by Wicked director Jon M. Chu and penned by the screenwriters behind Deadpool & Wolverine, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, is being spearheaded by Story Kitchen, the studio behind the successful Sonic films. The team is currently shopping this promising package around Hollywood, anticipating a competitive bidding war.
While it's still undecided which of the two sisters, Zoe or Mio, Sydney Sweeney will portray, the excitement around the film is palpable. Split Fiction, which only launched in March, has already sold over 2 million copies in its first week and is slated as a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2. IGN's review praised the game, awarding it a 9/10 and describing it as "an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another, Split Fiction is a rollercoaster of constantly refreshed gameplay ideas and styles – and one that’s very hard to walk away from."
Hazelight's success extends beyond Split Fiction, with another of its hits, It Takes Two, which sold 23 million copies, also lined up for a movie adaptation. Rumors suggest Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson might star in this film. While there's always a risk that these projects might not materialize, the current boom in successful video game adaptations suggests a strong likelihood of progress.
Story Kitchen, meanwhile, is busy with other adaptations, including Just Cause, Dredge: The Movie, Kingmakers, Sleeping Dogs, and even a live-action Toys 'R' Us movie. As for Hazelight, they're not resting on their laurels and are already teasing their next game.
