Excitement is building as DC's next major cinematic venture, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, has officially started filming. To mark this milestone, DC head honcho James Gunn took to Bluesky to share a tantalizing first glimpse of Milly Alcock as Supergirl—albeit, in a behind-the-scenes setting. The photo features Alcock comfortably seated in her actor's chair, giving fans an early taste of what's to come.
In his post, Gunn expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Thrilled to see camera roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El." This not only confirms Alcock's role as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, but also verifies that Craig Gillespie, the acclaimed director behind Cruella and I, Tonya, will be guiding the film's vision, as previously announced last April.

While specific plot details remain under wraps, it's known that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow draws significant inspiration from the graphic novel by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. This Eisner Award-nominated work follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll who recruits Supergirl to help avenge her father's murder at the hands of the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. If you haven't yet delved into this compelling standalone story, it's highly recommended.
Joining Alcock in the cast are Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, and Jason Momoa, who steps into the DC universe as the character Lobo.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is set to be the second film in the newly rebooted DC universe, following James Gunn's Superman slated for release this summer. Other projects in development include The Batman Part II—which may or may not connect to Gunn's overarching narrative—and a rumored Clayface film directed by Mike Flanagan.
