The bumper State of Play June 2025 showcase set a new peak concurrent viewership record for Sony.
Sony kicked off the summer reveal season with a bang, unveiling a wide array of new games to build excitement ahead of Summer Games Fest Week, including glimpses of 007 First Light, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, Romeo is a Dead Man, and Silent Hill f.
According to Streams Charts, this week's State of Play peaked at over 2.2 million live viewers for the first time in the series’ history. Data from the website shows State of Play is now the third most-watched gaming or tech showcase of 2025 by peak concurrent viewership. Only two Nintendo Direct events drew higher numbers — unsurprisingly, Nintendo’s Switch 2 reveal remains far and away the top.
As spotted by Push Square, the State of Play wasn’t Sony’s most-viewed livestream ever — that title belongs to the PS5 reveal event, which currently has 44 million views. The Horizon Forbidden West and Horizon Forbidden Dawn presentations were also massively popular, reaching 15 and 10 million views respectively. But Tuesday’s stream remains the most-watched State of Play ever. The State of Play centered on third-party titles — especially Japanese developers — with major announcements from Capcom, Grasshopper Manufacture, Konami, ArtPlay, Square Enix, and Team Ninja. First-party games were notably scarce in the lineup.
It also felt like this year’s summer showcase was tailored for dedicated gamers, with a strong emphasis on action titles, many of which are expected to carry mature or 18+ ratings.
