The ensemble for Star Wars: Starfighter continues to solidify, with Mia Goth joining Ryan Gosling in the upcoming sci-fi adventure. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Goth—best known for her dual roles in the X horror film series—will portray an antagonist in director Shawn Levy's standalone Star Wars project. Filming begins this autumn in England ahead of its scheduled May 28, 2027 release.
A New Threat Emerges
Reports indicate Gosling will portray a guardian forced to protect his young nephew from dangerous adversaries, including Goth's mysterious villain. Lucasfilm has opted not to comment on casting specifics at this stage.
Establishing the Timeline
Set five years after The Rise of Skywalker, Starfighter ventures into uncharted narrative territory. Director Levy emphasized during Star Wars Celebration 2025 that this represents "a completely new adventure—neither prequel nor sequel—set during an unexplored era."
Scheduled as the next cinematic release following 2026's The Mandalorian and Grogu, the project shares its name with early-2000s video games but reportedly won't adapt their storylines. While the original 2001 Starfighter and 2002's Jedi Starfighter introduced the title concept, the film charts its own course.

Connecting the Galactic Timeline
The Rise of Skywalker concluded with Emperor Palpatine's defeat but left the post-Exegol galaxy largely unexplored. This new film bridges the gap before Daisy Ridley's return in Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's sequel, which follows Rey's efforts to restore the Jedi Order approximately fifteen years after the trilogy's events.
