Star Wars Outlaws has just received its first story expansion with the release of the "A Pirate’s Fortune" DLC, now available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. The driving force behind this new content? None other than the fan-favorite Weequay pirate, Hondo Ohnaka. Known for his appearances in the Darth Maul comics and the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, Hondo's charismatic and roguish nature has captured the hearts of many, including the development team at Ubisoft's Massive Entertainment.
Drew Rechner, Creative Director at Massive Entertainment, shared with IGN that the team's passion for Hondo was a key factor in his inclusion in the DLC. "We always knew because there were so many passionate people on the team that we needed to feature Hondo. And, you know, that scoundrel fantasy of Kay mixing with the pirate fantasy of Hondo, it just kind of makes sense, right?" Rechner explained. He also highlighted how the storyline delves into Kay's journey of self-discovery and leadership, with Hondo serving as a mentor—or perhaps something more ambiguous—adding depth and intrigue to her narrative arc.
The "A Pirate’s Fortune" DLC introduces players to a thrilling new adventure centered around the Rokana Raiders crime gang and the Miyuki Trade League, the latter of which can provide Kay with essential upgrades for her Trailblazer ship. Additionally, players can look forward to a new blaster capability called Shock, enhancing Kay's combat options.
In other news, Star Wars Outlaws is set to launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 on September 4. While Rechner remained tight-lipped about specific new features for this platform, he teased that more information would be forthcoming. "In terms of a specific feature set, that's something that we will get into later. So we'll have more stuff to talk about later," he stated. Potential enhancements could include utilizing the Switch 2's controllers as a mouse and leveraging its new GameChat capability, promising an enriched gaming experience for Switch players.
With the addition of Hondo Ohnaka and the exciting new content in "A Pirate’s Fortune," Star Wars Outlaws continues to expand its universe, offering fans more adventures and deeper narratives to explore across multiple platforms.
