The mobile gaming phenomenon Monopoly Go is set to infuse a dose of science fiction into its classic real estate and dice-rolling gameplay through an exciting collaboration with Star Wars. Announced at the Star Wars Celebration in Japan, this event will span from May 1 to July 2, drawing inspiration from iconic moments in the Skywalker Saga and The Mandalorian.
During the Star Wars season on Monopoly Go, players can look forward to seeing beloved Star Wars characters transformed into adorable cartoon versions. The event introduces a Star Wars Go sticker album for players to complete, the thrill of podracing at the Mos Espa Grand Arena, and the opportunity to collect various in-game items such as tokens, shields, and emojis. Imagine the surreal yet delightful scenario of Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Han Solo, R2D2, Yoda, Anakin Skywalker, and Qui-Gon Jinn mingling with Mr. Monopoly, also known as Rich Uncle Pennybags.
This isn't the first time Monopoly Go has ventured into crossover territory. Last September, the game welcomed Marvel characters like Spider-Man, Wolverine, and the Avengers into its universe, adding a new layer of excitement for fans.
In other news, publisher Scopely has expanded its portfolio by acquiring the teams behind Pokémon GO, Pikmin Bloom, and Monster Hunter Now from Niantic, signaling a robust growth strategy in the mobile gaming sector.
According to a report from our sister site GamesIndustry.biz, Monopoly Go has topped the charts as the highest-grossing game in 2024, amassing a staggering $2.47 billion in consumer spending.
