Spider-Man: New Day Adds Sadie Sink, Sparks Cast Speculation

By OliverMar 27,2026

Sadie Sink has been photographed filming her first scenes for *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*, offering fans new insights into the mystery character the *Stranger Things* star is portraying.

Initial images from the London set, showing the actress alongside director Destin Daniel Cretton, depict her largely concealed by a large coat. However, viewers quickly noted her camouflage pants and combat boots—a detail that points toward one prominent character theory.

Given that Frank Castle is confirmed to co-star in *Brand New Day*, some speculate Sink is playing Rachel Cole-Alves, a redheaded comic book ally of The Punisher who has also assisted Spider-Man.

Yet, subsequent set photos show Sink in different attire—a black and yellow jacket with blue jeans—casting doubt on the Cole-Alves connection. The one definitive clue seems to be that Sink is retaining her red hair for the role, which many believe rules out rumors of her portraying a new iteration of Gwen Stacy.

Naturally, the most famous redhead in Spider-Man's world is Mary Jane Watson, Peter Parker's love interest and eventual wife. With Zendaya already playing MJ, theories suggest Sink could be an alternate-universe version of the character—or that the red hair is an intentional misdirection.

Fans have proposed other Marvel redheads as possibilities, including former Spider-Man ally Firestar, a fresh take on X-Men's Jean Grey, or Carlie Cooper—who becomes a love interest for Spider-Man in the *Brand New Day* comic arc, after his marriage to Mary Jane is erased and his identity is forgotten.

Marvel appears to be deliberately keeping Sink's role secret to fuel speculation, well aware of her resemblance to comic book figures like Mary Jane and Carlie Cooper. Another intriguing possibility is that she is playing the shapeshifter Shastra, with her various looks being part of the narrative.

Filming for *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* has resumed after a one-week shutdown due to star Tom Holland's head injury. Numerous set leaks have surfaced since production began, including photos of returning actors Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds and Zendaya as MJ. Behind-the-scenes footage also hints at a return to practical web-swinging effects, moving away from the heavy CGI used in prior MCU films.

Holland recently paused filming to discuss a new LEGO short film he stars in during an interview with IGN. As for Sadie Sink, fans hope Marvel will reveal her character before *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* swings into theaters on July 31, 2026.
