Smite 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the popular third-person MOBA, has launched its open beta, free to play on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (via Epic Games Store and Steam), and Steam Deck. This launch coincides with a substantial patch from Titan Forge Games, introducing new gods, a revamped game mode, and more.

Revealed a year ago and built using Unreal Engine 5, Smite 2 boasts significant improvements over its predecessor. Expect refined visuals, enhanced combat mechanics, and a redesigned item shop offering greater item variety regardless of god choice. Gameplay remains true to its roots: players choose gods from diverse cultures to engage in 5v5 battles, vying for map control and ultimately, victory. Following a successful closed alpha, the game is now open to all.

Beginning January 14th, players can download Smite 2's open beta across all supported platforms. This update introduces Aladdin, a brand-new god designed specifically for Smite 2. Utilizing his unique abilities, Aladdin can traverse walls and even revive after death thanks to his companion's three wishes. His ultimate ability, true to his legendary origins, involves capturing enemies within his lamp for a 1v1 showdown.

Smite 2's Free-to-Play Open Beta: New Content Highlights

  • 5 new gods, including the all-new Aladdin.
  • The return of the fan-favorite 3v3 Joust mode.
  • A fresh Arthurian-themed map.
  • Updates to the Conquest map.
  • An alpha version of the Assault game mode.
  • New optional Aspects, enhancing certain gods.
  • Free-to-play availability on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam & Epic Games Store), and Steam Deck.

Joining Aladdin in the expanded Smite 2 roster are Geb (Egyptian God of Earth), Mulan (Chinese Ascendant Warrior), Agni (Hindu Pantheon), and Ullr (Norse Pantheon). In addition to the new gods, the popular Joust mode makes a comeback, offering smaller-scale 3v3 battles. The Conquest map and an alpha version of the Assault game mode are also included in the open beta.

Titan Forge Games' creative director has stated that Smite 2 is demonstrably superior to its predecessor in numerous aspects. The team expressed gratitude for the community feedback gathered during the closed alpha, and promised ambitious new content for Smite 2 in 2025.

While available on most major platforms, Smite 2 is currently absent from the Nintendo Switch. The developers previously cited concerns about maintaining smooth performance on the console, but have expressed openness to a potential release on the Nintendo Switch 2. For now, Smite fans can enjoy the open beta across all other supported platforms.
