"Skull and Bones Adds Land Combat This Fall: Ubisoft Reveals Year 2 Plans"

By OliviaMay 17,2025

Ubisoft is steering Skull and Bones into an exciting Year 2, promising to make the pirate multiplayer game bigger and better than ever. The developer has unveiled a slew of major content updates, including new game modes, ships, a fearsome Kraken, and a long-awaited feature—land combat.

During a special Year 2 showcase that aired yesterday, Ubisoft revealed its plans for the upcoming year. The presentation was brimming with exciting content, but it's Season 3: Guts and Glory that has caught everyone's attention. This season, launching this fall, will introduce the much-anticipated land combat feature, allowing players to step away from the sea and engage in swordfights and gun battles on land. As part of the Rogue Warlord additions, players will explore sandy beaches and damp caves to rescue skilled crewmembers called Officers. A teaser video offered a glimpse of what to expect, though we'll need to wait until later this year to experience it fully.

While land combat is the headline feature of Skull and Bones Year 2, the showcase also highlighted a wealth of other content to keep players engaged throughout 2025. Season 1: Ascent into Chaos, which launches today, April 15, introduces a new item ascension feature to enhance loot, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, slated for summer 2025, will bring Megaforts and the formidable Frigate large ships. Season 4: Eye of the Beast, arriving this winter, promises to unleash the Kraken, introduce the Hunter’s Guild, and add the Corvette large ship to the fleet.

If these updates have piqued your interest, you're in luck—Skull and Bones is hosting a free weekend from April 17 to 21. This is your chance to experience the pirate PvP action firsthand and even purchase the game at a discounted price (details to be announced).

Skull and Bones set sail on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, earning a 7/10 in our review. While Ubisoft has been tight-lipped about official sales figures, they did tease that the game achieved "record player engagement" shortly after its launch. Interestingly, the release of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% increase in players for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
