"Silksong Playable at Australian Museum in September 2025"

By AudreyMay 05,2025

IGN has an exciting announcement for fans of Hollow Knight: Silksong: the long-awaited game will be playable at an Australian museum starting in September 2025. Developed by Team Cherry, a studio based in Adelaide, South Australia, Silksong has been at the top of the Steam wishlist for years and remains one of the most eagerly anticipated titles globally. Although the exact release date remains under wraps beyond a general 2025 window, fans can get hands-on experience at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, beginning September 18.

As part of the Game Worlds exhibition at the Melbourne museum, Silksong will not only be playable but will also feature in-depth displays exploring the game’s design and artistic direction. These displays promise to offer a closer look at the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s movements and attacks, as well as the logic behind the game’s toughest boss fights.

Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell, co-curators at ACMI, expressed their excitement about showcasing Silksong: “Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centerpiece of Game Worlds in September. From the intricate animations of Hornet to the strategic design of the game's challenging boss fights, our Silksong displays will dive deep into the game's artistic direction and design. We’re incredibly grateful to Team Cherry for entrusting us with their work, and we can't wait to share it with everyone!”

To give fans a taste of what's to come, ACMI released a sprite sheet from Silksong, showcasing some of the game's design elements that will be on display during the exhibition. The image was shared with IGN with Team Cherry's permission.

As anticipation builds, fans are speculating about the game's release date. Given that Silksong will be playable at ACMI starting September 18, many are hopeful for a release before that date, possibly as early as August. The game's momentum is clearly picking up, highlighted by its brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct last month, where new gameplay footage was shown and the 2025 release window was confirmed.

Originally announced for Nintendo Switch and PC, with later additions for Xbox (including Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5, Silksong has been the subject of numerous intriguing teases. Team Cherry started the year with a mysterious post about a chocolate cake recipe, sparking hope among fans for an imminent reveal in April.
