"Silksong Dev Sparks Switch 2 Rumors with Cake Photo"

By MiaApr 02,2025

It's been six years since Team Cherry announced Hollow Knight: Silksong, the eagerly awaited sequel to the 2017 Metroidvania masterpiece Hollow Knight. Over those years, fans have eagerly awaited updates, only to be met with the game's absence from various gaming shows. At one point, Microsoft even seemed to confirm a launch before June 2023, but The Game Awards came and went without any news on Silksong. Now, with the recent announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, could this finally be the moment fans have been waiting for?

The speculation began with a seemingly innocuous image of a cake. Here's how it unfolded:

Eagle-eyed fans on the Hollow Knight subreddit noticed that on January 15, co-director of Team Cherry, William Pellen, changed his Twitter/X profile picture to a chocolate cake. Pellen tweeted: "something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow."

This tweet coincided with rumors of a Nintendo Switch 2 reveal on January 16, which indeed happened. Nintendo announced the Switch 2, leaving many questions unanswered about the next-gen console. Did Pellen's tweet hint at the Switch 2 reveal? If so, why?

The Hollow Knight community went into full detective mode. Fans reverse-searched the cake image, leading them to a Brooklyn Blackout Cake recipe on Bon Appétit, published on April 2, 2024.

This date became significant because Nintendo confirmed that the Nintendo Direct for the Nintendo Switch 2 would air on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. Fans theorize that Pellen has initiated an alternate reality game (ARG) for Silksong with this tweet and the cake image.

The investigation didn't stop there. Fans are now dissecting Pellen's new X/Twitter handle, @everydruidwaswr. Redditor Representative-True suggested that "wr" might be the start of a word like "wrong," and noted the character limit of Twitter handles being 15 characters, matching the length of "everydruidwaswr." They also pointed out the connection to the Druid of the Moss Temple, an NPC in Silksong.

Adding to the mystery, Pellen's new X/Twitter name is "little bomey." Fans noted that Little Boomey is a wine from Southern Australia, where Team Cherry is based, though the spelling differs. What could this mean?

It's important to remember that when Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced, Team Cherry confirmed launch platforms as Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. However, that was six years ago. Could Nintendo have secured Silksong as a Switch 2 launch title? Is it a timed exclusive? Or is this all just the wild speculation of fans desperate for news?

We'll have to wait a few more months to find out. In the meantime, be sure to check out everything announced at Nintendo's Switch 2 reveal.
