Hollow Knight: Silksong Is Real and Progressing, Confirms Team Cherry

Fans of the acclaimed game Hollow Knight can breathe a sigh of relief as Team Cherry's Marketing and PR Manager, Matthew "Leth" Griffin, has reassured the community that the eagerly awaited sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong, is indeed real and actively being developed. This confirmation comes after a period of speculation fueled by a seemingly innocuous change to co-creator William Pellen's profile picture on X (formerly Twitter), which depicted a cake and led to a flurry of rumors about potential announcements or an Alternate Reality Game (ARG) related to Silksong.

Addressing the speculation directly, Griffin clarified on X that the cake image was nothing more than a playful change and not a hint at any upcoming news or developments. Despite this, he took the opportunity to reaffirm the project's status, stating, "Yes the game is real, progressing and will release." This update marks the first significant communication from Team Cherry about Silksong in over a year and a half, providing a much-needed reassurance to the game's dedicated fanbase.

The Long Journey of Silksong

Originally announced in February 2019, Silksong was expected to launch in the first half of 2023. However, in May 2023, Team Cherry announced a delay, citing the game's expanded scope and their desire to enhance its quality further. Silksong promises to take players to a new kingdom, introduce nearly 150 new enemies, and feature a new difficulty mode called Silk Soul. As the game nears the two-year mark since its delay, this recent update, though brief, breaks the silence and keeps the anticipation alive.

The response to Griffin's update has been mixed. While many fans expressed gratitude and encouragement, appreciating the dedication to quality over rushed releases, others voiced frustration over the prolonged wait and the minimal information provided. After nearly six years since its initial announcement, the community's patience is being tested, but the confirmation of ongoing development offers a glimmer of hope.

What to Expect from Silksong

Hollow Knight: Silksong is set to launch on multiple platforms, including PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. Players will follow Hornet, the protector of Hallownest, on a perilous journey through a new world, aiming to reach the peak of a mysterious kingdom. While no specific release window has been announced, fans are encouraged to stay tuned for further updates and announcements.
