In the world of television, it's a truth universally acknowledged that beloved shows can never truly stay dead. This year alone has seen the revival of universes as varied as The Office and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and now, the cherished 2000s hospital sitcom Scrubs is set to join the fray.
It's been 24 years since Zach Braff first donned the scrubs of junior doctor JD at Sacred Heart Hospital. Now, Braff has agreed to reprise his iconic role in ABC's upcoming Scrubs reboot. The new series promises a blend of fresh faces and familiar favorites.
This isn't the first time ABC has ventured down this path. The network previously attempted a similar concept in Scrubs' ninth season, which saw Braff and other original cast members passing the torch to a younger ensemble. Unfortunately, the experiment didn't resonate with audiences, and the season was cut short after just nine episodes.

Now, nearly two decades later, ABC is giving it another go. The original creator of Scrubs, Bill Lawrence, is spearheading this revival, envisioning it as a hybrid of reboot and revival.
With Braff's commitment secured, Entertainment Weekly suggests that other original cast members may soon follow suit.
"We've been talking about it a lot, and I think the only real reason to do it is a combo," Lawrence previously shared with Deadline. "A: people wanting to see what the world of medicine was like for the people they love, which is part of any successful reboot. But B: I think that show always worked because you get to see young people dropped into the world of medicine, knowing young people that go there are super idealistic and are doing it because it's a calling."
*Scrubs* originally aired 182 episodes from 2001 to 2010. While there's no confirmed start date for filming the new episodes, fans are eagerly awaiting the return to Sacred Heart Hospital.
