As a practical person, I've always been cautious with my spending, focusing mainly on essentials. Occasionally, I treat myself to a discounted video game, but that's about as far as my indulgences go. Last year, however, I found myself drawn to something I hadn't considered in years—a LEGO set. Growing up, I loved building LEGO, but as an adult, I had moved away from such hobbies, partly due to the high costs associated with them. Sets linked to popular franchises, in particular, tend to be pricier. It took me a while to justify the purchase, but the LEGO Super Mario Piranha Plant set caught my eye. It had been on sale for under $50 since October of last year, and I finally decided it would make a quirky addition to my desk.

My interest in the Piranha Plant set was sparked after reading IGN's review. Being a long-time fan of the Mario franchise, this set seemed like the perfect way to showcase my love for the series. While LEGO's botanical line offers beautiful flower sets that would enhance my desk, none carry the playful menace of the Piranha Plant.

Now that I've built the set, I'm thrilled to have it on my desk. It brings a touch of the Mushroom Kingdom to my workspace, making me feel like I'm nurturing my own Piranha Plant during work hours. The building process was enjoyable and challenging enough to keep me engaged throughout the afternoon. This is currently my only LEGO Nintendo set, but the experience has me considering adding more to my collection.

How Much Are You Willing to Spend on a LEGO Set You Love?
LEGO sets, especially those aimed at adults, can be quite expensive, with some reaching prices over $200. It's easy to get carried away with the excitement of new releases. However, finding a balance between indulging in a beloved hobby and managing finances is crucial. The Mario LEGO set, priced under $50, felt like a justified purchase for me. The joy of building and the daily happiness it brings me seem to outweigh the cost. For me, $50 is the sweet spot for such a treat.
